ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s average coconut process went up 1.5 percent to 77,314 percent for 1,000 nuts at an auction on June 13, data from the Coconut Development Authority shows.
Coconut prices rose 20 percent over May at the weekly auction.
The highest price was 86,200 for 1000 nuts at the June 13 auction, up from 82,700, while the lowest was 66,000 down from 67,000.
A total of 844,787 coconuts were offered at the auction and 732,443 were sold.
Wholesale prices were 95 to 110 rupees for large nuts and 85 to 90 rupees for small nuts in the week to June 13.
Farmgate prices in Kurunegala were 72,000-75,000 per 1,000 nuts.
Coconut oil was 570,000–610,000 rupees per metric ton.
Coconut shells were 32,000–34,000 rupees per metric ton. (Colombo/June16/2024)
